Wonderful and wondrous stories
This story took place at the Tölzer Easter Market in 2025.
A group of young people stood a few meters away from our stand, looking appraisingly and disparagingly at our unique cork bark pieces. At some point, the word "Amazon" was mentioned.
We approached the group and asked them what they meant by "Amazon." The answer surprised us quite a bit: "We find it disgusting that trees have to die for such decorative items, and even that entire forests are cut down." The young people were unfamiliar with the natural wonder of the cork oak, and we told them that cork is the most sustainable material on earth, that the tree lives on, and so on.
After our conversation, the young people discussed it for a while. Then one of the group approached us and apologized for the prejudice and thanked us for correcting it. Respect for his courage.
What gives us courage in this story is that young people are increasingly questioning sustainability and are not simply consuming.
Stay healthy and sustainable everyone!
